Beginning Monday, March 30, 2020


Odyssey Charter Elementary School and Odyssey Preparatory School will be using the following online components for our Instructional Continuity Plan:

1. FOCUS to access Online Learning assignments
2. FOCUS and BLACKBOARD to communicate with students/parents/guardians
3. FOCUS to continue with grading
4. ZOOM for online meetings and other special events
5. Online resources such as i-Ready, Discovery, Renzulli, and myOn will continue to be accessible to students, parents/guardians, and teachers for instructional purposes 



Procedures for OCS (K-5) and OPA (K-6) Daily Check-In and Weekly Assignments

Beginning Monday, March 30, students will check in for attendance daily by logging into i-Ready Reading and/or Math.

1. Classroom Teachers will post student assignments in Focus.  

  • Classroom teachers will post their assignments for the week by Monday at 8:00 a.m.
  • Classroom assignments will be turned in by the parent via email to the Classroom Teacher once per week (on Friday only) by 3:30 p.m.
  • Special Area Teachers (Art, Media, Music, PE, Spanish) will provide Choice Boards to Classroom Teachers to post in Focus.
  • Parents will send an email to the classroom teacher each Friday by 3:30 p.m. listing the assignments their child completed from the Specials Choice Board.

2. Gifted and Talented Education (GATEway) Teachers will provide their assignments for the week via Blackboard every Monday at 8:00 a.m. 


4. For questions on assignments, please email classroom teachers directly. Teachers’ email addresses are available on the schools’ websites at www.odysseycharterschool.com or www.odysseyprepacademy.com. Teachers are available to respond to emails during the hours of 8:30 a.m. -3:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.



Daily Instructional Schedule

1. Beginning Monday, March 30, students will check in for attendance daily by logging into i-Ready Reading and/or Math.

2. i-Ready (Time of day for completion of i-Ready assignment to be selected by parent)

Grades K-1:

  • 30-minutes daily in English/Language Arts (15 minutes on teacher-assigned phonics instruction and 15 minutes on student’s learning path)
  • 15 minutes daily in math on student’s learning path

Grades 2-3:
  • 15 minutes daily in ELA/Language Arts on student’s learning path
  • 15 minutes daily in math on student’s learning path

Grades 4-5 (6 - OPA):
  • 15 minutes daily in ELA/Language Arts on student’s learning path
  • 15 minutes daily in math on student’s learning path.


3. Core Subjects (math, science, social studies, reading and writing)

Activities and/or assignments will be posted by teacher on FOCUS/Blackboard each week.

  • 15- to 30-minute assignments per subject area for K-2 students
  • 25- to 45-minute assignments per subject area for 3-5 (6-OPA) students


4. Special Areas (Physical Education, Art, Music, Spanish, Media)

Activities and/or assignments will be posted by teacher on FOCUS each week.

  • One 30-minute assignment, daily, covering all special areas


5. Independent Reading and Read Aloud Activities:

  • Students will be required to read independently each day (K-2:15 minutes; 3-6 :20 minutes
  • Teacher read alouds will be scheduled and the time posted by teacher on FOCUS/Blackboard
  • Parents can read aloud to their children and keep a record using the read aloud recording form found on the school website.
  • Teachers may require students to write a reflection or comment about story read during independent or read aloud activities.
  • Parents who wish to check out books from the school library must call the school to schedule an appointment.


6. Additional Daily Writing Activity:

  • Student journaling is encouraged.

Note: Students in grades K-3 will receive four hours of instruction/learning activities daily. Students in grades 4-6 will receive five hours of instruction/learning activities daily.




Student Services

1. Counselors will be available during the school day via email to provide support. They will also continue with any previously made appointments via conference call. The counselors/social workers will share the conference line via email with those students who are scheduled to meet with them.

2. ESE and ESOL teachers will communicate with parents to ensure appropriate support is provided for students. ESE and ESOL teachers will provide direct support to students to ensure that assignments can be completed successfully. They will also continue to provide IEP services via conference call or zoom (video conferencing).

3. Speech services will continue weekly.  Speech teachers will reach out to schedule zoom (video conferencing) appointments to establish support.
